About me
Dr. Sarah Sexton earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Boston University, two master’s degrees, one in special education and one in educational leadership, both from Bank Street College, and a doctorate from Appalachian State University. Dr. Sexton has worked in the field of early childhood education for more than 30 years, including 20 years in leadership positions. Dr. Sexton served as the Director of FIPP Early Head Start, a national program of excellence. She currently serves as the Director of the Family, Infant and Preschool Program, a model demonstration early intervention program and applied research institute. She regularly consults with early childhood programs across the country in the areas of natural learning environment, capacity-building family support practices, interest-based child learning opportunities, and professional development coaching. Dr. Sexton's role as a therapeutic foster parent and recipeient of family support services influences her perspective on how professionals should treat and support diverse families.
