Presenter BIO: Marilyn Barge,DSW, LSWWebsite:
https://www.pa-aimh.org/about-us.html Dr. Marilyn Barge holds a doctorate from Tulane University School of Social Work, a master's degree from Temple University, and a bachelor's degree in Social Work from Temple University. She also has a Pre-K-12 School Counseling certification from Rosemont College and holds a license in social work for Pennsylvania.
With more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Barge has devoted her career to supporting families and children impacted by poverty in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, focusing on Early Childhood Mental Health and advocating for poverty justice. She is trauma-informed certified and has over a decade of experience advocating for behavioral health services for individuals with autism.
Dr. Barge is an active member of the National Association of Black Social Workers (NABSW), where she co-chairs the regional conference training. She also serves as Vice President of the Alumni Board at Temple University's College of Public Health and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Pennsylvania Association for Infant Mental Health (PA-AIMH). In January 2025, she was nominated to serve on the Board of Directors for the Alliance for the Advancement of Infant Mental Health, an honor that further reflects her commitment to the field.
Dr. Barge has also served as a teaching fellow at Tulane University School of Social Work, where she has taught graduate-level social work courses, including Human Behavior in the Social Environment, Applied Social Statistics, and Quantitative Research Methods. In addition to teaching, she has mentored and trained social workers to enhance their ability to support the clients they serve, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge needed to address complex social issues effectively.
She has been involved in planning and teaching about the importance of infant mental health from birth through age 8. She supports professionals in identifying and addressing the mental health needs of young children and their families. Currently, she is organizing the Southeast region’s Infant Mental Health Breakfast to support professionals and stakeholders in addressing the mental health needs of young children and their families, with a focus on reflective supervision strategies.
In January 2024, Dr. Barge joined Your Voice Heard, LLC, and is delighted to contribute to such an esteemed organization. Her involvement reflects her ongoing commitment to advocacy and education in the mental health field.
