About me
Allisa (Lisa) Thompson is currently a PhD student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she works as a research assistant in the Center for Literacy and Disability Studies. Prior to her doctoral studies, she served as a special education consultant, literacy consultant, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) consultant on a countywide level in Oakland County, Michigan. For over seventeen years, Lisa taught students with complex support needs including students with severe cognitive and multiple impairments. She also served as the chair of her school’s curriculum committee and as a member of the school improvement team. Throughout her career, Lisa has developed, facilitated, and presented professional development on AAC, literacy, and instruction for students with complex support needs. She has served on various school-, county-, and state-wide committees.
